Introduction

Jason Gardner was born and raised in Virginia, but he now considers himself a true “Northwesterner,” having lived and practiced law in Portland for over ten years.  Jason is a trial attorney, husband and father, traveler, trail runner and kayaker.  Jason maintains a busy litigation practice, but also manages to enjoy the Northwest’s beautiful outdoors.  He is an avid whitewater kayaker and has explored many of Oregon and Washington’s most challenging rivers.  When he is not chasing after his three young children, Jason enjoys running and competing in recreational trail races.

Practice &  Experience
  • Jason began practicing law as a prosecutor for the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office.  While there, he tried many jury and bench trials to verdict and developed a reputation as an excellent trial attorney.  Jason also worked closely with Portland Police Officers, drafting search warrants and accompanying officers on search and seizure missions.  Jason tried numerous cases in which excessive police force was raised as a defense and received a commendation from the Portland Chief of Police for his trial work.  After moving to the civil side, he specialized in the defense of municipal actions, including 42 USC 1983 cases.  In particular, he successfully defended several class action lawsuits involving the constitutionality of detention center strip search policies.

  • Jason joined Bodyfelt Mount in 2009 and became a partner in 2013. He continues an active litigation practice focusing on the defense of companies and individuals in liability and insurance coverage disputes. His practice encompasses general and products liability, construction defect, wrongful death, catastrophic injury, trucking and transportation claims, and insurance coverage. He has litigated many cases throughout Oregon and Washington, obtaining favorable and cost-effective results for clients. He recently obtained summary judgment in favor of a contractor in a $10,000,000 construction defect lawsuit. Jason handles all aspects of litigation, from pre-lawsuit claims and continuing through arbitration, mediation, trial and appeal.

  • Based on peer reviews, Jason earned an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell for his legal ability and high ethical standards.
